Discover the Red Maple Trade Knife #385 — a handcrafted knife that blends 18th-century English trade knife heritage with modern kitchen performance. It’s part of Greg’s Florida Wood Series and measures 10¼” overall, with a 5¾” slight trailing-point blade. The 1095 high-carbon steel and half-tang design keep it lightweight at just 3.25 oz. That means effortless handling while maintaining impressive strength. It’s equally at home slicing vegetables, slicing meats, or serving as a versatile all-purpose tool in the kitchen. Its antiqued finish and finely honed convex grind ensure lasting sharpness, precision, and durability.

Home cooks rave about these knives, snapping them up so quickly they sell out the first time we display them at market—clear proof of their usefulness and appeal.

Why It Stands Out

Inspired by 18th-century English trade knives that powered early American households with their toughness and versatility, the Red Maple Trade Knife #383 revives that legacy for modern families seeking heirloom craftsmanship. Its stabilized red maple handle—secured with mild steel pins—delivers striking figured grain and daily-use strength.  More than a recreation, this working knife blends historic roots with modern durability and low-maintenance ease over raw woods—perfect for function-focused kitchens. No wonder they sell out fast at markets.

Optional Handcrafted Leather Sheath

Elevate your knife with a custom pouch sheath.  These sheaths are made from vegetable-tanned leather, hand-cut and dyed, stitched with heavy linen thread, and beeswax-sealed for water resistance.  Choose between two homemade historic dye finishes:
  • Vinegaroon Black – a deep, iron-black tone from Greg’s in-house dye.
  • Oak Bark Brown – a warm, earthy brown brewed by Greg from oak bark extract.
Care & Maintenance

These blades are forged from high-carbon steel, not stainless. High-carbon steel will rust if left wet, but the antiqued patina provides protection that deepens with age. To keep the knives performing beautifully:

  • Hand-wash promptly after each use and dry completely.
  • Apply a light coat of food-safe oil or our recommended Wiseman Axe & Knife Wax for extra protection.
  • Store the set in a dry environment.
