Introducing the Hard Maple Trade Knife #356, the latest masterpiece in our “Historical Knives Collection” at Grebecknives.com. This stunning knife is a creative reinterpretation of the 18th-century Small English Trade Knife.  As a result, it blends historical charm with modern durability. Unlike an exact replica, this knife captures the essence of the originals while utilizing advanced materials for enhanced performance. Crafted from 1095 high carbon steel, the blade offers superior edge retention compared to its historical counterparts.
Greg applies the antiqued finish using a technique rooted in 18th-century craftsmanship. Therefore, the finish enhances its vintage aesthetic and also provides protective qualities for the high carbon steel. The Small English Trade Knife was a staple in the “New World,” widely used by hunters, fur trappers, tradesmen, butchers, and as the primary kitchen knife in many homes. This half-tang version weighs 3 ¼ ounces, making it lightweight and comfortable to carry all day without fatigue. The handle, fashioned from stabilized hard maple with mild steel pins, may appear archaic by today’s standards, yet it fits snugly and comfortably in the hand, offering a timeless grip. The blade features a full flat/convex grind with no secondary bevel, delivering a “sticky sharp” cutting edge that harkens back to the precision of yesteryear. Please exercise caution and avoid testing the sharpness on any body part you wish to keep!   Consider pairing this English historical representation with its French counterpart from the same era for a complete collection.
