The Florida Bur Oak Tiny Trade Knife #363 is a 7 1/4″ recreation inspired by an 1850s-era trade knife, originally sold at an online auction. While compact, this knife carries the rugged soul of the frontier and is built with modern durability in mind.  The 3 3/8″ clip-point blade is crafted from 3/32″ 1095 high carbon steel and finished with an antiqued patina that highlights its historical roots. At just 2.6 oz, this knife is agile, precise, and ready for everyday use.
The handle features stabilized Florida Bur Oak—an upgrade from the original that adds both beauty and longevity—secured with three peened mild steel pins. The original knife had two larger pins, but Greg opted for this configuration to improve structural integrity and balance. He also modernized the design with a full-tang construction, offering increased strength while staying true to the knife’s 19th-century charm.
Historically, knives like this filled many roles—field backup, kitchen prep, or a patch knife for muzzleloader users. It’s a design born from necessity, now reborn for today’s collector, reenactor, or anyone who appreciates traditional craftsmanship.
